Put Your Best Self Forward This Year
Happy New Year! I can’t believe that 2018 has already come to an end. The past 12 months have taught me tons of valuable lessons, gave me so much to be grateful for, and left me feeling inspired for everything that 2019 has in store.
2018 especially helped me uncover some lifestyle habits that, when I follow through with them, I find I am so much more aligned with the happiest, healthiest, best version of myself. My intention for 2019 is to get really consistent on following through with these habits - and I want you to get in on them too!
So, whether 2018 left some big shoes to fill, or you’re feeling as if there’s nowhere to go but up after the last 365 days, here’s how to put your best self forward this year:
Make time for yourself
Schedule time to do the things that keep you grounded and treat them like non-negotiable appointments. For me, this might mean waking up a few minutes earlier to meditate, declining a happy hour invite so I don’t miss the yoga class I planned to go to, or taking a Saturday afternoon to myself for some much needed R&R. Whatever it may be for you, make time for yourself and recognize how incredibly important and unselfish that time is.
Evaluate your relationships
There is no time for toxic relationships in 2019! This has two parts, and it goes for everyone you interact with on a regular basis: friends, significant others, family, coworkers, you name it.
#1: You have so many better things to put your time and energy towards than someone who makes you feel bad about yourself. Walking away from toxic people only creates more space for positive, supportive, genuine people to come into your life.
#2: Evaluate yourself, too. Remember that relationships are a two-way street. I realized that growing and nurturing relationships means a lot less “What are you doing for me?” and more “Am I doing everything I need to be doing for you?”
Learn when to (politely) decline
Seizing opportunities is great, but saying say yes to every opportunity that comes your way isn’t doing you any good. It’s 2019 and we are not here to spread ourselves thin! Learn to acknowledge when you don’t feel completely aligned with a situation and politely say no. Your time is valuable! And you should be giving your all to what you spend your time doing.
Take care of yourself
Lastly, and most importantly, take care of yourself. It’s not rocket science that you’ll perform your best when you’re at your best, both physically and mentally. So do what you need to do to properly nurture your body, mind, and spirit. I’m talking about filling your diet with more colorful, whole and unprocessed foods, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, learning new things, nourishing your mindset with gratitude and positive affirmations, and taking the time to get to know God on a deeper level. Ooooooo can you just imagine the outcome?! This is the year we thrive, people!
Not that we need a new year to better ourselves (we can do that anytime), but a new year is always helpful to inspire a fresh start. And I’m making it my mission to use this year to become the best me yet. Are you with me?
